  • Smith’s Equipment Hire Ltd, winners of the HAE Award 2018, are the Northwest's Largest Independent Equipment Hire Company. Currently in a period of expansion, we have now expanded into the North East with our first Depot located in Leeds where we now have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Multi-Drop/HGV Driver.

    As a business, we supply all types of customers and organisations with a range of specialist equipment. Our fleet of delivery vehicles are able to supply almost any type of equipment that is requested. From plant machinery for large construction and industrial contracts to domestic power tools for that DIY renovation project. With 12 ‘Hire It Centres’ located across a wide region we really do have it covered!

    To be successful in this position we seek experienced drivers who have the ability to carry out the following key responsibilities;

    • Carry out daily and weekly vehicle checks ensuring any defects found are reported to the Fleet Manager
    • Keep an accurate record of deliveries and collections using delivery documentation
    • Ensure that any equipment on the vehicle is secured and protected where necessary
    • Collect any money due on the delivery / collection as instructed
    • Maintain product knowledge in order to demonstrate to customers where necessary
    • Demonstrate a high level of customer services and the ability to work in a fast paced, team environment.
    • Essentially, we require a Class 2 Driver who will be happy working on rotational basis to drive either a 3.5ton, 7.5ton or HGV vehicle on any given week.

    This is a manual position, so ideally we seek applicants who are physically fit as you will be responsible for managing your own jobs, loading goods on and goods off your vehicle. An understanding of safe loading and towing processes is a requirement of the role.

    It is also essential that you are a qualified driver and that you have the correct industry specific licensing, so you must have all (or some) of the following:

    • Class 2 licence (experienced in driving Class 2 vehicles)
    • Valid CPC card, IPAF Trained, Fork Lift Truck Licence, CSCS Card

    This is a full time position, offering a competitive salary and a uniform will be provided! Working hours are: Monday to Friday: 07.00am – 16.30pm and you may be require to work an occasional Saturday as per business requirements.
