  • We're hiring an Environmental & Sustainability General Manager at JCB World Headquarters

    Role Overview:

    The role of the Environmental & Sustainability General Manager is to ensure the implementation, management and maintenance of all activities and initiatives that are designed to address critical environmental issues and to continually initiate and drive sustainability as part of JCB’s business plan.

    You will be responsible for the design and delivery of JCB’s social responsibility promises to protect and enhance the environment as well as its legal and regulatory accountabilities through shaping and delivering best practice Environmental and Sustainability management strategies, systems, processes and procedures.

     

    About your role

    You will provide environmental and sustainability expertise and lead the development of procedures that enables Environmental and Sustainability assurance requirements are met across the JCB’s supply chain; monitoring environmental performance through audit compliance;

    You’ll work across the organisation to identify, understand and mitigate existing, emerging and new environmental risks. You will also be accountable for implementing effective communications to raise environmental and sustainability awareness across the organisation which supports change in HSE culture.

    You will also manage the review of the environmental management system, developing and maintaining a single Environment and Sustainability policy supported by multiple procedures (e.g. Waste Management, Noise and Vibration, Vegetation & Habitat, Energy Management) processes and work instructions under our core approach and working at pace to design any procedures that are deemed insufficient.  

    • Liaise with statutory authorities and to jointly promote continual improvement and adherence to environment law.
    • Contribute to the development of KPI's and manage a programme of audits, to measure, monitor and report on JCB’s environmental and sustainability performance with a focus upon understanding key areas of criticality in performance such as energy, waste and water and statutory nuisance complaints.
    • Contribute to benchmarking and implementation of best practice Environmental and Sustainability activities through development of information sharing relationships with TfGM, KAD and ORR.
    • Establish current gaps and identify improvements in investigation reporting and audit arrangements.
    • Advise and support roll-out of activities aimed at reducing environmental incidents. • Support the coordination of the Social Responsibility pillar, ensuring that all cross functional activities are reported in relation to Environment and Sustainability.
    • Provide advice to relevant stakeholders including TfGM and KAM Project Managers on Environmental & Sustainability innovations/enhancements to the Infrastructure.
    • Build and maintain effective cross organisational working relationships to facilitate delivery of 2019/21 business plan activities.
    • Expert level of proficiency across Environmental and Sustainability matters including relevant legislation that is underpinned through substantial and sustained practitioner experience in the field.

    About you

    • Professional knowledge and experience are recognised through full IEMA and Chartered Membership of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) and a relevant HSE qualification such as NEBOSH Environmental Diploma and/or degree in an Environmental related science subject.
    • Experience of undertaking ISO14001:2015 Audits
    • Experience of advising at a senior management team level to provide authoritative guidance on all matters related to Environmental and Sustainability performance across a large multi-functional organisation.
    • Applied knowledge and experience of implementing changes to Environmental and Sustainability practices in an operational environment where changes are consulted upon with local trade union representatives.
    • Skilled as a communicator and influencer to ensure that HSE functional interests and issues are committed to and aligned across the organisation with business plan activities.
    • Able to think within broadly defined organisational policies and objectives to establish Environmental and Sustainability plans, priorities and prescription of procedures for the organisation to follow
