  • JCB are looking for an Environment & Sustainability Manager to join the team- Group Manufacturing

    JCB now has an exciting opportunity for an outstanding candidate to join our Environment and Sustainability team, based at JCB’s WHQ in Staffordshire. This is a great opportunity to join us as we prepare to develop our low carbon product offering and tackle carbon emissions in our operations and supply chain. As a business we are growing our operations overseas so our Road to Zero challenge is a truly global one.

    JCB employees 14,000 people globally, including 6,000 in the UK which is home to our WHQ and nine other business units. Our products range from the mini excavator and site dumpers to backhoe loaders, construction and agricultural loadalls and excavators. We also operate our own logistics centre and global aftermarket business.

    Responsibilities as Environment & Sustainability Manager :

    The scope of our challenge is immense and you will need to respond to issues as they arise. However, in a typical day week you will find yourself supporting delivery of our global sustainability strategy through your involvement in a range of tasks including:

    • Day to day management and assurance of compliance processes including monitoring, measuring and reporting for carbon, energy, waste, greenhouse gases and air quality
    • Liaising with regulators proactively and in response to core requirements
    • Supporting production and facility teams to identify and implement BAT and best practice across our manufacturing sites
    • Supporting key functions and teams with development and implementation of sustainability projects across supply chain, operations and engineering
    • Collating and managing global HSE and sustainability data including maintenance of carbon desktop energy management system
    • Measuring and reporting on performance against Sustainability targets
    • Supporting the GM Environment and Sustainability with the process of setting and tracking our Science-Based targets
    • Supporting the development of Sustainability reports for the business in line with known frameworks such as GHG Protocol and GRI
    • Supporting value chain carbon assessment processes
    • Supporting Governance requirements including preparing and making presentations to site teams and managers
    • Delivering training and coaching
    • Developing and delivering sustainability communications packages in line with Marketing and Sales teams and others as appropriate

    About you:

    To fill this key role we are looking for someone with:

    • A degree in environmental science, management, sustainability or a related topic
    • Membership of IEMA (Practitioner or Chartered)
    • Some experience of driving impact in a similar role
    • A passion for environmental sustainability and the drive to make change happen
    • Excellent data analysis and management skills
    • Strong communication and presentation skills
    • Confidence to set direction and challenge assumptions
    • Flexibility,  great planning skills, a pragmatic approach, and the ability to work independently and in support of the wider team
