JCB is a torch-bearer of British industry—and nobody knows what that feels like better than our welding teams. They’re the ones who, with their high-strength joints, literally hold the entire operation together.
When providing structural integrity in manufacturing is your entire focus, it makes you pretty integral to everything that goes on here. From hi-tech production line work to exciting projects like the new ground-breaking hydrogen engine we’re developing.
The 15 months you’ll spend on our Welding Apprenticeship programme will line you up for a career that’s every bit as sturdy as the iconic yellow machines you’ll learn to build. Where you take it after that is up to you—but as a welder with JCB, you’ll have options all over the world.
What is a JCB Welding Apprenticeship like?
You’ll be amazed at the sheer scope of welding work that goes on here. It’s central to the manufacturing process of every one of our products. As you can imagine, there are a fair few. Get yourself fired-up for an intense learning experience that will show you a huge range of welding skills, and all of them to world-leading JCB standards.
Our experts will open your eyes to just how satisfying a career in welding can be as they prepare you for life at the business end of the manufacturing process. Taking a practical, hands-on approach, you’ll see how we position, prepare and check welding equipment. How we handle and maintain consumables and prepare areas for welding. Then there’s rigorous testing and assessing the quality of your work. All of which will give you a real taste of day-to-day life here.
Think of the satisfaction you’ll feel seeing one of our iconic yellow machines roll off the production line and knowing that you’ve built it. The fruits of labour don’t come much more tangible than a freshly finished JCB Backhoe Loader. Once you've had a taste of that as an Apprentice, you’ll be itching to start your career for real.
What will I get out of a JCB Welding Apprenticeship?
We’ve been developing welding techniques for as long as we’ve existed. That’s more than 75 years of expertise that you’ll have direct access to. At JCB, when we build things—whether that’s your skills or a Telescopic Handler—we stand by our work because we know it’ll deliver. That’s why you’ll be guaranteed a role at the end of the programme. You’ll also have a General Welding Level 2 qualification to your name and feel ready to make headway in your career.
