Joining us as a Buyer in our Purchasing Department is an opportunity to be right where the action is at a world-renowned business you’ll be proud to say you’re a part of. Here we source parts and suppliers without which our business can’t operate. It’s as important as it sounds. Working here means thriving within a fast-paced environment where confident problem-solving and quick decision-making counts. It’s a place where the team pulls together to fulfil Category Strategies but, equally, somewhere that encourages autonomy. Once you’re trained – you’re trusted. But more than anything else, it’s about having the right attitude. A certain tenacity and ambition balanced with an ability to build great relationships. That’s how we get the best deals for JCB. For those who can do that, there’s huge potential for rewards and career development.
Overview of the role:
Life in this highly strategic area is certainly no easy option. But with cutting-edge processes and modern digital support, our function is highly professional and a fantastic place to learn. Though there’s responsibility right from the moment you join us, there’s also a real chance to progress: we’ll support your development every step of the way and even provide financial assistance for further qualifications and training. With the scale of JCB, there’s no telling how far you’ll go.
You will aim to fulfil the category strategy for your area and work to our established guidelines and processes, which include Early Supplier Engagement agreements and the wider Category strategy. Naturally, cost, quality and risk will all be key factors. You’ll negotiate and analyse to ensure we get the best deals and products. Success means understanding what the business needs and working closely with suppliers. In a global organisation like JCB, that’s no small feat.
This is a role where expertise and credibility count. You’ll need proven experience and the ability to strike the best deals for the business. Good communication skills and influence will be essential, along with a gift for building relationships. A CIPS/MCIPS qualification would certainly be an advantage. With these talents, you’ll be equipped to help more junior team members develop – but to really excel, you need motivation, enthusiasm and the drive to take the business forward.
You will also need a detailed understanding of Purchasing tools and processes including:
• Category Management
• Budget Planning and Reporting
• Supplier Contracts
• Project Management
• Practical Problem Solving
• Advanced Negotiation Techniques
• Inventory Management Understanding
• Management Systems knowledge (ISO, PDCA, TQM, etc)
Rewards and benefits:
Our achievements – now and in the future – are down to our strong worldwide workforce. To say thank you, we give everyone here career development and the chance to progress. We also pay great attention to employees’ health and welfare. You can expect medical insurance and dental care schemes, plus access to our healthy living centre. Naturally, this comes with a competitive salary, company pension and 33 days’ annual leave.
Note: We have a number of roles available at the World Headquarters, Cab Systems and Power Systems.
