On our 39-month apprenticeship programme you will learn the skills to become a successful Powered Access Engineering Technician with a fantastic range of future career options ahead of you. On a daily basis you'll work within one of our service centres where you will learn to:
- Service and repair a diverse fleet of specialist Powered Access machinery to meet company and manufacturer standards
- Inspect and function test a wide range of equipment
- Assess machines to ensure they meet the correct operational and safety guidelines
- Diagnose and rectify complex electrical, mechanical and hydraulic faults
- Order replacement parts and fit them correctly
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive service and maintenance records
- Develop in-depth product knowledge
- Build excellent working relationships with customers and understand their business needs and requirements
- Become an ambassador for our "Customer First" culture, resolving any issues quickly and keeping your colleagues and customers informed, so they
- feel truly valued
- Expand your team working skills with your colleagues and the wider Sunbelt Rentals team
- Manage multiple tasks and deadlines as part of a varied workday in a fast-paced operational environment
We'll provide you with a comprehensive company induction, role-specific training, and apprenticeship support. You will become a part of a larger apprentice cohort where you will be able to form lifelong relationships and engage in a wider support network.
We'll also support your personal growth and development in line with your Sunbelt Rentals career aspirations. You will attend both in-house and manufacturer courses to expand your product knowledge and skills.
Apprenticeship Training
You will be completing a level 3 Lift Truck and Powered Access Technician Apprenticeship Standard. This will be delivered using a combination of:
- Workplace experience to gain practical skills
- Guidance and training from an experienced workplace mentor
- Industry recognised training leading to an apprenticeship qualification.You will attend residential placements at a training centre and may be required to travel outside of your normal working hours

This is what you will do
This is what you can expect on a working day as a Hire Controller in Hereford: In the morning, you and your colleagues start up the branch. Throughout the day, customers walk into the branch, needing your advice and guidance on the machines that they need for their projects. This can vary from an excavator to a drill. This is a very busy branch with many customers who you will be supporting. The telephone rings with a new orders and your inbox also gets filled up pretty quickly with requests from new and existing customers. You make the arrangements with the customers and then you make sure that all of the administration that is needed for the rental is done correctly.
A customer walks into your branch. They have rented several portable heaters and are bringing them back. You check them and ensure that the rental contract has been correctly completed. As a Hire Controller at our Hereford branch, you make sure that your customer does not have to wait too long and that they can move on quickly.
Your main priority is thinking of the customers best interests. This means that you listen carefully to the customer's wishes and are able to anticipate them well. Furthermore, you are responsible from A to Z that everything is arranged perfectly. Of course, you never miss an opportunity to explain to the customer which additional machines or products could benefit their project. The day offers a lot of variation, because you are answering emails and phone calls and you are drawing up quotations. Together with your colleagues, you ensure that the Hereford branch has a neat appearance and makes a good first impression.
You love solving problems and making our customers happy! In short, as a Hire Controller in Hereford, you have a versatile and varied job in which you will never become bored!
The orange team in Hereford that you can be a part of consists of several enthusiastic colleagues in various fields.
This depot is conveniently located to the North of Hereford centre right by the Hereford Retail Park. It is less than a 1 mile walk from Hereford Station.
Your working hours will be Monday to Friday, 0730hrs to 1700hrs.
